Center Mission Statement
The Center for Gifted Education has the mission to support the needs of gifted and talented students and those with gifted potential. The Center is an instructional, research, and service center. It offers professional learning opportunities for teachers and schools, summer enrichment programs for children, and consultation services for parents. We facilitate and support gifted education advocacy efforts, providing research-based information about the needs of gifted & talented students to all stakeholders. We aim to build relationships with those who impact gifted students as well as the public.
Center for Gifted Education and Destination Imagination® (DI)
Would you like to learn more about Destination Imagination®? DI teaches students the creative thinking process. The DI activities are grouped into team challenges and instant challenges. When students learn the creative thinking process, they learn to ask better questions and learn to work collaboratively in groups to address the problem that is presented, and to find solutions. Students learn that failures are an important part of learning. DI is a true STEAM program.

For an amazing opportunity to hear from Dr. Brandon Bonner, the principal at Charles M. Burke Elementary in Duson, Louisiana. In 2025, Dr. Bonner completed his doctorate at the University of Louisiana in the Educational Leadership Program with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction. As he discusses his research:
Undiscovered Gems: The Underrepresentation of Black Girls in Gifted Education Policies in Arkansas and Louisiana.
This presentation examines the persistent underrepresentation of Black girls in gifted education in the United States, with a specific focus on policies in Arkansas and Louisiana.
