Elementary Education Gr 1-5
Our Elementary Education Gr 1-5 Program to focuses on basic academic learning and socialization skills, introducing children to the broad range of knowledge, skill and behavioral adjustment they need to succeed in life.The major goals of elementary education are to achieve basic literacy and numeracy among all pupils, as well as to establish foundations in science, mathematics, geography, history and other social sciences.
In this program, you will have many hands-on opportunities to work with this age group and you will create lesson plans and apply them in a variety of classroom settings. The hands-on opportunities include, but are not limited to, working in youth programs on campus, field experiences, and a year-long teacher intern residency in area schools to teach things like science, engineering, robotics, storytelling, writing, to name just a few.
Upon completion of the entire program, you will receive certification through the Louisiana Department of Education to teach Elementary Education Gr 1-5. See Praxis Requirements for certification.
