Courses

As a Middle School Education major, you will take a variety of courses to develop your content knowledge, learning theory, teaching strategies, and assessment techniques.

Major Courses

The following are the major courses that require a "C" or better:

  • ALL courses labeled EDCI, EDFL, HLTH, IRED, READ, SPED, and All Focus Area Electives.
  • ENGL 101, ENGL 102, MATH 107 (or 103), MATH 117, MATH 217, MATH 317, PSYC 312, THEA 300, MUS 306, UNIV 100, and UNIV 200.

Focus Area Electives

Middle School Education majors are required to complete at least 18 credit hours of focus area electives. You must select two focus area concentrations in one of the following areas: English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, or Social Studies. Each concentration area requires at least 6-9 credit hours. Of the required 18 credit hours, you must complete a methods course in each of the two focus areas.

  • Middle School English Methods (EDCI 422)
  • Middle School Mathematics Methods (EDCI 352)
  • Middle School Science Methods (EDCI 423)
  • Middle School Social Studies Methods (EDCI 424)
